Dear FPS Families:

As always, I want to thank you for your continued support and patience as we work to plan for the coming school year. The deadline to complete the Options for Learning Survey is approaching this Sunday, July 19. As I mentioned in earlier communication, the survey has been adjusted to reflect the new hybrid model. If you have previously completed the survey and wish to change your decision, you may complete it again and the district will use your most recent selection.

Let me reassure you that we are continuing to develop our plans for the 2020-2021 school year. The hybrid model was developed to allow appropriate social distancing in our buildings to keep our students and staff members safe. We will continue to monitor and adjust as new information regarding safety is available. Our school board met yesterday, where they adopted the new policy requiring masks for student and staff safety, and I met with our Ready for Learning Committee last evening where I listened to local physicians, community members and our staff members voice concerns and suggestions regarding the coming year. The district is committed to working with our families to make the transition to hybrid and virtual learning as smooth as possible. Please remember:

  • The virtual experience will not be a return to AMI. It will be a more rigorous learning experience.
  • FPS Special Services will continue to work with families to meet the needs of students.
  • The hybrid and virtual options will be evaluated at semester, or when the district receives direction from the Division of Elementary and Secondary Education, the CDC and the Arkansas Department of Health.
  • More information is available on the Questions and Answers page.

As a district, we know that we need to have flexible plans in place to meet the unique needs of students and families. In partnership with our staff and our community we know we can formulate a plan that takes into consideration the needs of all working families.

However we come together in August 2020 to start our year, I know one thing to be true - I am ready to see you, work with you, learn with you and help each child be successful. And, I promise to do my utmost to keep you and your children safe. Thank you for your partnership.

Sincerely,

John L Colbert, Ed.D.
Superintendent
